Condition :

DISC: Vinyl is NM- with full original gloss. Has been played a small number of times and handled with utmost care. No marks, no scratches, no scuffs – a beautiful disc in both appearance and sound. Plays beautifully with superb fidelity – no noise, no ticks, no skips, no groove wear. One of the prettiest albums I have had the privilege to offer. One of the holy grail early Blue Notes, this investment grade LP is one that you will never need to upgrade.

JACKET: Jacket is nice VG++. Front artwork is clean and bright, with a few very slight traces of ring wear just beginning to appear at the bottom; otherwise clean and beautiful. Seams and corners are excellent with no chipping or other imperfections, save for a slight separation (less than ½ inch) at the top right opening corner, barely noticeable. Reverse is showing more prominent signs of surface/ring wear. No writing, stickers, or stains. Overall a very fine jacket to accompany the superb disc.

Review :

“Dial “S” for Sonny , Sonny Clark’s first session for Blue Note Records and his first session as a leader, is a terrific set of laidback bop, highlighted by Clark’s liquid, swinging solos. Clark leads a first-rate group – Art Farmer (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Wilbur Ware (bass), Louis Hayes (drums) -- through four originals and two standards, balancing the selections between swinging bop and reflective ballads. There are traces of Bud Powell in Clark style, but he's beginning to come into his own, developing a style that's alternately edgy and charmingly relaxed. Mobley, Farmer and Fuller have their moments, but Clark steals the show in this set of fine, straight-ahead bop.
