Billie Maxwell was the real McCoy among early cowgirl / cowboy recording artists. Raised on an Arizona ranch, she played guitar with her family band the White Mountain Orchestra, which played for dances at ranches in the area. In 1929, they successfully auditioned for an upcoming Victor field trip to El Paso, TX where they recorded four unique string band sides. Ralph Peer auditioned Billie separately, liked what he heard, and had Billie record six songs including the eerie classic "Haunted Hunter". From the Ken Swerilas collection.
