Is this Item a Fake or Counterfeit?
For sale is an original Elvis Presley 78rpm SUN Record from mid-1955, the "SUN 223" which was also Elvis' final SUN single before he switched over to RCA.
It features one of Elvis' signature songs, backed by Scotty Moore and Bill Black - the A-SIDE features Mystery Train and B-side features I Forgot To Remember To Forget.

The trail-off / deadwax has hand-etched serial/identification numbers which are as follows...

Mystery Train side; SUN 20
U-156

I Forgot To Remember To Forget side; SUN 20
U-157

Also visible on both sides is a MIRRORED machine-stamped text "M.S.I CO".

The LABELS display extremely well, they are beautiful - no writing, no stickers, no stamps, no rips nor tears or any other blemishes really. They're almost as good as you can get with a record that was pressed over 60 years ago!

The original record would have been sold in a plain brown sleeve. It is now in a brand new white inner sleeve with a new plastic outer sleeve.

The record is in fine shape. The "Mystery Train" side displays almost no blemishes or marks, other than some small pressing bubbles. We have done our best to picture those. We grade it visually at VG+

The "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" side shows more wear, though mostly scuffs which do not feel with a fingertip pass. I would expect moderate surface noise consistent with a 78rpm record that was reasonably well-cared for. We grade it visually at VG.

From a smoke-free environment!

Shipping is FREE via USPS Media Mail in the continental USA. 78s are fragile and need to be packed correctly, and we pack ours via the method of the legendary Bryan Wright, which can be checked by Googling "How to Ship 78s" and clicking the first non-ad result for the Claxtonola website. If you'd like a different service, just let me know and I'll be happy to provide it for the appropriate cost. If you bid and want it shipped outside the continental USA, you will be invoiced for additional shipping costs via the Global Shipping Program. A tracking number will be provided. If you go with the standard Media Mail offered, we will not be responsible for any damage of the package due to USPS, though of course we do not anticipate this, and it has never happened before. We would be happy to ship with different options or services for the appropriate cost upon request.

I ship within 24 business hours of receiving cleared payment, almost always the next weekday, except for the occasional Friday when I am out of town. Payment is due within 7 days of auction close.
