DAVID BOWIE BY DAVID BOWIE ORIGINAL 1969 PHILIPS RECORDS AUSTRALIA PRESSING This really is a lovely pressing, and so rare . So hard to find I waited for years to pick one of these up. And just like its little brother LP the Australian Dress Cover. It is a hundred times rarer than the UK pressing. Again just like the Aussie Dress sleeve this sleeve too is very delicate by its nature chiefly because it is made of very thin stock . But it is a beauty isnt it. Over the years I have owned only 4 of these and this one right here is the best of the lot by far. Like the Aussie Dress sleeves they are all shot to pieces and suffer appalling ring ware cos they are so thin. The front laminated sleeve has a lamination crack on the right side. The back of the sleeve shows ring ware but for this particular sleeve this is nothing. I love that cropped shot of Bowie with the Artist then song titles down the right side of Bowies face. I love the way they transposed the Victor Vasarely circular artwork on the left side of Bowie`s face . In the record industry None gate folds are known as "Standards" and made as a money saving exorcise simply because Philips/Mercury/Vertigo obviously never expected to sell a great deal of these in Australia in 1969 so saved some money by issuing it as a standard. But it is still a great sleeve. And very, VERY RARE . The textured lyric sleeve is present (thats usually missing) and in great shape. The vinyl has hairlines on both sides but it plays great. No kips jumping or sticking. Some background noise in the quiet parts but its a good 8 out of 10. The lovely blue record labels are in great condition with just a few spindle marks . A great collectable release of a true Bowie classic. A penny start . And NO RESERVE !!!!
