DAVID BOWIE
BY
DAVID BOWIE
RED LABEL PHILIPS LP
ORIGINAL 1970
SOUTH AFRICA
THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST DAVID BOWIE LPs IN THE WORLD.
No. You are not hallucinating.
THIS.... Is real !
I say this for the simple reason, this record is so unknown among
collectors, many doubt, if it ever existed at all. I have only ever seen
one other copy. And its condition was pretty bad. SURELY this is the
rarest version of David Bowie`s ACOUSTIC MASTERPIECE in existence.
This is the 1970 South African Philips LP release, with the ULTIMATE in
Philips DAVID BOWIE collectability, THE RED LABEL !
Please....
All interested collectors, (take your time) double click the pictures,
and get lost in those red labels with the classic Philips silver typeset.
THIS.
IS RARE.
I wonder how many of you are saying "Where the hell, has he got this from".
IT DOES NOT MATTER.
Here it is, in all it`s magnificence. This is a record so rare,
that condition really, does not matter, anything will do....
This copy is in Excellent- condition so it is the one you fight for,
and the one you keep. This is up there with the best of the best.
I feel due to this items SHEER RARITY its value is
TOTALLY UNKNOWN !
The sleeve is a none gatefold flip back with a laminated front.
If you double click the pictures you can see lamination lift around
the top edge, spine edge, bottom, and there is a lamination bubble bottom right corner. So considering how rare this is, it is beautiful.
The back top left corner boasts the Teal Record company logo,
with Philips logo`s top right and bottom right. Around the edges
it has only partial song lyrics on a white background as opposed
to the UK original which has full lyrics on a royal blue background on the gatefold inside. The magnificent artwork on the back of this LP as you all know is very interestingly called,
THE WIDTH OF A CIRCLE. As you also know
it is by David`s school days friend, George Underwood.
It has that cartoon of Bowie, the moon landing.
Bowie`s mother with a clown, (just like in the Ashes to Ashes video !)
(was he really thinking that far ahead)? Just like on the UK version ,
this sleeve mistakenly calls this artwork The DEPTH of THE circle.
(bottom right in the credits). David Bowie hated mistakes like this
and called Philips, "takky", for getting the title wrong, obviously
he was thinking of a link to his next Album The Man who Sold the
World , with the magnificent album track
The WIDTH of a Circle , so its easy to
see David`s frustration with Philips Records.
The spine has a few bumps but no rips
and all spinal writings are fully readable.
The vinyl retains a very high lustre sheen.
The vinyl also has a few wispy hairlines , if you double click the picture with the matrix number you might see 2 hairlines half way through the number.
That`s as bad as it gets. There is very little background noise
only there when you try to hear them in the very quiet parts .
There are no sticks, no bad clicks. No jumps at all . It plays magnificently , I would give it 9.5 out of 10.
The labels.....
WOW.
LOOK AT THEM .
The more you look.
The more you see.
