RARE Blaze Foley Vital Records Townes Van Zandt
Blaze Foley - Self Title I met Blaze in New York six years ago. He was making a record, "If I Could Only Fly". He was born in Marfa, Texas. I've never met his family, but they must be fine people. He is one of the most spiritual cats i've ever met; an ace finger picker; a writer who never shirks the truth; never fails to rhyme; and one of the flashiest wits i've ever had to put up with. He's only gone crazy once. Decided to stay. But the main thing is the music. Blaze is a lover of things alive, and pleads their cause with every word. Muscle Shoals Musicians are among the best in the world. I am proud to call Blaze my friend. Townes Van Zandt from the back cover. This is Blazes first album, and also the infamous album that the master tapes were confiscated by the DEA and never released. Apparently the executive producer on this album, Bill French, was caught up in some kind of drug thing and the DEA confiscated the tapes as drug evidence. Crazy…just like most things in Blaze’s life. Called many things through they years such as The Vital Album (the label it was released on) or The Muscle Shoals Album (where it was recorded) it’s actually a damned good album… just like everything else of Blaze that has surfaced. Unknown author, atruersound.com Blaze Foley (born Michael David Fuller) was raised in West Texas and sang with his mother, brother, and sisters in a gospel act called the Fuller Family. Taking a pseudonym borrowed from Red Foley, Blaze performed in Houston, New Orleans, and Austin through the 1970s and '80s, developing a strong following and respect from fellow musicians. But it was the Austin music scene, among friends like Van Zandt and Timbuk 3 -- whose work Foley was an early champion of -- that would become his spiritual and geographical home. While Foley recorded a now impossible to find studio album in the early '80s at the famed Muscle Shoals studios, he's remembered more for his vivid character. He was known as much for his kindness and philanthropy, even in the face of his own poverty, as he was for his drunkenness, ornery nature, and downright weirdness. Foley was also known for his uncanny fascination with duct tape, which he used to hold the various pieces of his life together, most notably his shoes (as immortalized in the lyrics of Lucinda Williams' aforementioned "Drunken Angel"). ~ Erik Hage, allmusic.com

Cover is EXC with a bit of ring rub only visible at the top through the name. Vinyl probably played a couple times, some sleeve marks but otherwise NM-. Second of two copies of this rare LP I purchased from a man who bought it at one of Blaze's shows. Wasn't until I got home I discovered a 45 inside… also listed in this week's sale.

Albums will be shipped in mlpb12 200# test 13" x 13" x 1.5" brown corrugated mailers from Bags Unlimited designed to fit up to 12 records. They have double walled edges help ensure safe delivery. Albums will be sleeved in new 3 mil poly sleeves and secured between custom cut sheets of styrofoam. It cost a few dollars more but it's worth it. Don't know about you, but I HATE to buy a record just to have it destroyed in transit due to an apathetic packing job. With over 1000 records shipped in the last 4 years I have had NONE damaged and plan on keeping it that way. Records shipped outside the US that sell for more than $50 will be shipped Priority International.

International shipping on this item will HAVE to be US priority mail so it can be tracked. Please take that into consideration when you bid. Thanks ~ David
