RARE Led Zeppelin *MONO* DJ Copy RL WHITE Label Promo LP Houses of the Holy 7255

You are bidding on an EXTREMELY RARE find that ranks at or near the top of rarities in Led Zeppelin's catalog. This should be considered a must for any serious Zeppelin or vinyl collector. Some consider this as the "holy grail" when it comes to Zep radio and white label promo lp's. This comes from my personal collection and would be a great addition to any collection.

Believe it or not, this is a *MONO* WHITE LABEL PROMO DJ pressing of Led Zeppelin's brilliant album, "Houses of the Holy." In addition, this is a ROBERT LUDWIG press, as evidenced by the "Sterling RL" etched in the deadwax on both sides of the vinyl. The Catalog # is 7255, which is specialized for the Mono press. The cover includes three very neat stickers - one DJ Copy Mono sticker, one Suggested Cuts sticker, and one Song Title sticker. As with all Mono vs. Stereo productions, the sound is a little different than your typical copy of this album.

I recall the first time that I acquired this that I couldn't believe that it was a Mono. My mind was blown that Mono's were still being produced in 1973. Further hard to believe is that this album is now 40 years old :)

In doing some background research, which is limited due to scarcity of this pressing, here is what I have come up with --- Atlantic Records specifically distributed this pressing exclusively to AM radio stations in the United States prior to the release of the album. These were likely distributed a month or so before the album's release to promote the album. This would represent the last of the Led Zeppelin catalog to be issued in both Mono and with a White Label. In addition, this may be the last Mono White Label Promo produced by Atlantic, as cat #7256 (last of 7200 series) and 8303 (8300) series were the highest catalog numbers produced by Atlantic in WLP Mono form, and they were released in 1972. With this album being produced in 1973, it is close to being the last Mono produced by Atlantic if not the absolute last.

At the time, AM rock stations were not the most prevalent, and some rumors that there may have been as little as 50 of this pressing were made. The last available copy for sale on eBay was December, 2011. According to online reference sites, only five copies of this have been sold from 2006 until now. Don't miss out this time around to grab this rare Zeppelin piece.

I will try to be as precise and critical of a grader as possible. As my feedback suggests, I try to be very fair. I think that this is an addition that you will be happy with. It's certainly not a NM or top copy, but neither have the previous copies that have been sold.

Cover: Overall VG+

The spine has remained solid and the cover has maintained nice color. There is no ring wear. The inner gatefold cover has retained very nice color. There are no rips, tears, or split seams. There are no bends or creases on the front cover, and two small bends on the back cover that are approximately two inches long that are not significantly noticeable. Initials are written on the right side of the front cover, which is quite common with DJ copies, as they often were popular targets for theft.

Vinyl: Overall visual VG to VG+, play-graded this as VG to VG+

The vinyl retains a nice gloss and has no warping. There are a number of superficial marks that are not deep and non-feelable. There are NO repetitive skips throughout the record. Audible background noise can be heard between songs and during low tones on both sides with the occasional pop or crackle. The only non-repetitive and temporary skips noted were during the songs "Dancing Days" and "No Quarter," which were sporadic and do not last throughot the entire songs.

Labels: The White labels are quite clean with a tight center. Spindle wear is minimal to none. No tape residue, etc.

Matrices: Side One - "A-14259-A," "Sterling RL;" Side 2 - "A-14260-A," "Sterling RL"

This comes from a nonsmoking, pet-free, and climate-controlled home.

Please check my feedback, as I’ve been on eBay for 14 years with 100% POSITIVE feedback. Never one single neutral or negative, as well as 5.0 star ratings in items as described, shipping time, communication, etc.

My grading scale: M, NM, VG++, VG+, VG, G...I tend to grade conservatively and try to be as honest as possible.

  • Mint = sealed, brand new
  • NM = used top copy, beautiful that looks like new
  • VG++ = terrific clean cover, vinyl should play at a high level
  • VG+ = reasonable copy - clean cover, vinyl that should play well
  • VG = shows wear that will likely play with occasional pops, skips, noise
  • Good = often has multiple scratches, do not expect to play well
