_____________________________ BOB MARLEY - KAYA - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED Tuff Gong LP a wonderful find in this estate of a former Chicago musician and collector...
a fine item to display, we considered keeping this one in the family for ourselves for some time this has been on display behind glass for most of it's 39 years, right next to a Blues Brothers LP signed by John B. and Dan A. and three other members of that band in 1980 (sold on this site weeks ago). These two pieces together were at the center of a wall of autographed stuff in the living room of the former (recently passed away) owner as the prizes among his signed stuff. A funny pair maybe, but for him, both, the highlights of when he had work connections/access to such backstage areas in the late 70s to mid 80s. While it is known that Bob attended a meet and greet/signing at a small Caribbean owned record store earlier in the day before his show at Chicago's Uptown Theater On November 13th 1979... ---another LP Bob signed that day at that store was JUST auctioned on this site and was signed to the record store owner's wife. The seller did not provide the name of that store which was one detail that both of us have sadly lost to time.---- ...this copy of Kaya was signed backstage after that historic show that night. There are several other autographs, autographed items and photos that accompany them from other gigs at the Uptown, in this estate, from this time period. There is no doubt nor has there ever been any doubt throughout our family that this is Bob's signature and he signed it in person in front of the former owner. He told the story often enough and some of us were alive to hear it when it happened. We have sold many signed items from this estate, including a Warhol poster and several fully-band-signed LPs the lineage of this particular copy of Kaya and how it was brought to be signed that night was, that because although it wasn't in perfect shape, it, being a Jamaican pressing on Tuff Gong, was still the rarest/coolest Bob Marley record had in his/this collection in 1979... (with the exception of a few Jamaican 7"s w/o picture sleeves)...as Jamaican Tuff Gong LP pressings are still a very rare bird to see in the USA today or any time since this one was signed in 1979. signed "One LoveRasta Fari Love Bob Marley" The sleeve is only in fair to good shape by record grading standards with obvious damage to back cover, but still displays quite nicely as you can see although the value of this is in the signed article itself rather than it's functionality, we did grade the vinyl as we are used to selling records only in the VG+ to NM range :)
CONDITION of VINYL : Although technically/conservatively by Goldmine/Record Collector standards we grade the record "Fair" , as we heard one skip that corrected itself on one of it's play-throughs from a single, small manufacturing "divot"/imperfection, not uncommon in Jamaican pressings in general and well, very common to anyone that really collects reggae records :)... we played each side fully, twice, fairly loud, and rediscovered this great record that's sometimes overlooked in his discography... Finding out that while looking a bit worn, it surprisingly plays in the VG+ range . F idelity and dynamics are actually pretty remarkable for a Jamaican pressing of this era. the high and low en d punches still pour out of this vinyl, full and defined well over any light background static.
CONDITION of SLEEVE : Fair to Good.
