AFFINITY - SAME RARE UK 1970 1st press prog classic on Vertigo swirl, 6360 004 Gleaming vinyl, super audio, impressive sleeve : EX!

AFFINITY - AFFINITY

Rare and highly sought after 1970 UK 1st pressing progressive rock gem in overall excellent condition, on the coveted VERTIGO swirl record label, 6360 004

Matrix Numbers : Side 1 6360004 1Y//2 1 1Side 26360004 B 1 1 2 1 (hard to make out last 2 digits)

Both sides of the vinyl really gleam, with clearly defined grooves throughout. In fact at first sight, and during "normal" daylight, the condition of the vinyl looks "as new"...truly a delight. It's only under a bright light, and even then held at the right angle, do a few very light wispy hairlines with a few equally faint paper scuffs come into evidence. On side 1 these are negligible, and on side 2 the same would apply were it not for two fine, pencil thin scuff marks which are slightly more noticeable. One of these is 11cm long but both are strictly surface only, certainly non-feelable and do not adversely affect playback. Gorgeous!

Each label would be pristine were it not for the existence of a couple of extremely faint (and small) spindle traces adjacent to the centre hole.

The beautiful gatefold outer sleeve is in excellent condition , retaining all of it's original colour vibrancy. The corners and edges are still well defined though there is some mild scuffing on the bottom edges, and some very mild scuffing (almost negligible) on the top edge. There is also some rubbing on each of the corners and a small abrasion located at the front top right corner where a small price tag once existed. There is also a small nick on the front side located 2cm to the right of the parasol, and another small nick about a third of the way up on the reverse side opening edge, both of which are visible in the accompanying photos. The inside of the gatefold is excellent - just the merest hint of a little age discolouration towards the top and bottom edges, but nothing really to speak of. The spine is solid and in excellent condition with all text perfectly legible and, of course. Indeed, open up the gatefold to view the whole of the outside and you realise just what a brilliant, beautiful, and iconic record cover this is. Totally impressive!

The quality of the audio is excellent. I played this record in it's entirety on my Pioneer PL-X99 turntable with an almost new diamond stylus and just loved every track, with impressive audio quality throughout. Not quite perfect audio reproduction, however, since there is a little background crackle at the beginning and very end of each side, and the occasional mild background crackle during a few of the quieter moments, including the second track on side 2 ("Cocoanut Gove"). Nothing to tangibly detract from the overall excellent sound quality, however, with Affinity's version of "All Along The Watchtower" coming across as nothing less than magnificent. I did notice five mild background clicks on side 1 (three on the opening track and two on track 2) but have to put this down to dust in the grooves because I could not identify any reason for this small aberration (not that it detracted from the overall audio quality anyway). Listening to side 2 again as I type I'm probably being picky in my critique of the audio quality...a definite "excellent" - just play it and enjoy it! Every track!! Linda Hoyle's vocals are wonderful and the guitar solos and organ playing simply brilliant.

The tracks are :

Side 1

1. I AM AND SO ARE YOU

2. NIGHT FLIGHT

3. I WONDER IF I CARE AS MUCH

4. MR. JOY

Side 2

1. THREE SISTERS

2. COCOANUT GROVE

3. ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER

Comes with original Vertigo swirl poly-lined inner which suffers from a little creasing, a little age discolouration, and a 5cm tear on the reverse side emanating from the centre - no splits, however, and still fully functional.

In summary, a true prog rock rarity, the excellent condition of which only adds to it's scarcity and future value potential.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

If this record interests you then take a look at my other listings for more 50's, 60's and 70's classic vinyl.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 45 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but over the years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boots, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I never intended selling any of my records but now I am retired and a combination of space requirements (caused partly by duplication) and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems. My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. For this item postage & packaging will be Royal Mail1st class tracked and signed for : UK £8, continental Europe £14, and Rest of the World £19. I do discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. Good luck with your bidding. Richard
