Curtis Fuller "The Opener" Blue Note 1567, original Mono vinyl LP. This is the deep-groove, “RVG”-stamped, 1957 original Mono, Deep Groove pressing of Curtis Fuller's "The Opener" on the Blue Note Records 47 West 63rd NYC labels of BLP 1567. “P” or “ear” present in deadwax. Musicians Fuller, Hank Mobley, Bobby Timmons, Paul Chambers and Art Taylor. This vinyl has consistent pops and ticks (no consistent static or groove-wear), yet the instruments are rich, tonally lush, clear, dynamic and strong. Medium level ticks can be heard throughout, but even in the ballad-oriented tracks, they don't detract from the music. In my experience, only 1500 Series Blue Notes have this rather spooky, magical quality. The signal is so strong, and distortion and tizz free, that it overcomes consistent pops and ticks. Deep Groove labels on both sides. Both labels show considerable wear from what appears to be a record changer. Side 1 has 2 feelable scratches, 2" and 3" respectively; Side 2 has five feelable 1"scratches--both surfaces have good gloss. All instruments have rich tone, broad frequency range, no distortion and surprising clarity--above the ticks and pops. A very dynamic and rare recording and a strong pressing. The Cover is in excellent condition, very good gloss, one split seam, a little seam wear (see photos). One split seam app. 2" long, and minor tears, but spines mostly solid (see photos). Minor discoloration and top left tear on the "43 West 63rd NY 23" back jacket. See photos. This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters).
