Hi & welcome to my auctions! Please do check shipping rates below and please do not send payment until you receive my invoice, thanks!)

You're bidding on an EARLY 1900's E.BERLINER GRAMOPHONE

"Covered by English & continental patents" 62637 and etched number 2268A. Text reads:

Portuguese Tenor

Fado da Mouraria

cantado por

SeƱor REYNALDO VARELLA

PORTO

In the back the words "Reproduced by hanover"

Most likely early 1900's and definitely one of the very first recordings of FADO music ever.

German-American inventor Emile Berliner invented the first circular (non-cylinder) playing discs with recorded sound in the late 1880s. These fairly flat-edged black, circular platter-like discs are commonly known as records.
By late 1894 he had financing available for the E. Berliner's Gramophone Company, which produced the discs until 1899.
These historic recordings--- which are currently between 115 and 120 years old-- are considered extremely rare and collectible, with some being one-of-a-kind recordings due to the process in which they were recorded and duplicated.

Condition is, as is usally the case, fairly used and probably not playable but still a unique item on its own. I am not an expert on this sort of recording so i will let the people in the know-how judge!
