XTC - Wrapped In Grey - legendary withdrawn 7" vinyl single. Complete with original picture sleeve VS1426
Scheduled for release by Virgin/EMI on September 7th, 1992 but the single was cancelled by Virgin top brass and all formats withdrawn prior to release date, which eventually led to XTC leaving the label. All stock at EMI Swindon was destroyed, as was almost all remaining stock at Virgin's offices in Ladbroke Grove. Some CD singles had already been serviced to a few radio stations for radio play, the 7" on the other hand is as rare as hen's teeth. Apparently all went to the crusher apart from a tiny handful salvaged from one box. We only know of one other copy changing hands in the late 1990s. This is the first time it has ever appeared on eBay to the best of our knowledge.
Andy Partridge: “
This was the final straw. I was really proud of this track — we put a lot of time and thought into the whole thing, including the video, and Virgin just pulled it.”
Condition: Unplayed vinyl, no spindle marking, never been near a turntable. Clean injection labels. Some sleeve sweat noticeable to surface of disc, light dusting and other minor evidence of shelf storage. Front of picture sleeve is very clean. Back cover has faintest ringwear from storage and there is a small lifting of the red background print where the record has come into contact and slightly adhered to the the cover of another neighbouring disc at some point in the past quarter of a century. Very light creasing to the bottom edge consistent with shelf storage. No seam splits, no edge tears. A very tight clean unplayed copy all things considered. See photos.
