Columbia SAX 2510

Beethoven - Symphony No. 7 in A Major, OP. 92 / Wagner - "Tannhäuser" Overture

George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra

Description: Original UK 1962 stereo pressing w. 'blue / silver' label, 'flipback' sleeve and o riginal Columbia / EMI inner.

If you're even looking at this listing, you will no doubt know how rare and how desirable this record is, and copies come up for sale only once in a blue moon.

This particular copy is a bit of a mixed bag (see description to follow), and whilst certainly not in mint condition is still a very pleasant and rousing listen, and would make a great addition to the collection of any classical lover. The following description uses UK 'Record Collector' gradings (given below for reference).

Vinyl - VG > Has been cleaned with an 'Okki Nokki' machine, and visually looks nice and clean and shiny as you will see from the pictures, with occasional surface marks / 'scuffs' and light scratches visible under strong light. A test play, using headphones, reveals some surface noise, especially noticeable during quiet passages, but during more strident sections (of which there are many), not really an issue. There are clicks and pops intermittently throughout (as part of the surface noise), with the occasional louder one, but in general this is a satisfying listen, with unwanted noise only becoming obtrusive during quiet passages, but never overpowering the music, even when it is at its quietest. Overall, a record that has clearly been played and loved, but still has many more plays in it for all but the most demanding listener.

Labels - EX > Given a separate grading as they look absolutely beautiful, with no visible wear, and no spindle marks. Gorgeous design on the 'blue and silver' label.

Sleeve - VG > Some minor creasing noticeable to laminate on front, and very minor wear and tear to spine at top and bottom, and corners. Back shows some discolouration. See pictures, in general sleeve isn't in bad shape at all, just minor wear and tear.

Inner sleeve - G > Discoloured, and with a 2" tear top right and some creasing, but overall in reasonable shape. Again, see pictures for reference.
