Attention Jazz Lovers: Offered is the continued collection of well cared for Jazz LP’s, from serious Jazz fan and collector. Original owner was both a record store owner and local DJ, as well as jazz promoter. Heavy emphasis on the Avant Garde, with dozens of Sun Ra on El Saturn, as well as nearly every ESP and Impulse title. These were purchased new or in near new condition throughout the 1960’s into the 1980’s. Over the next few months I will be listing over 1000 jazz records.

99% will be offered with no reserve.

Thanks and good luck bidding.

About My Grading system:

I have been collecting records for over 30 years and take this seriously, especially on Ebay where record grading is often unsatisfactory. If there are marks or imperfections on records, I list them. Mint records are new, unplayed, and records must be top-notch to receive that grade, with no scratches or marks on the vinyl. NM- records are nearly perfect, with the slightest signs of use. My VG++ (EX+) records are essentially clean and free of defects besides perhaps come slight sleeve marks, or 1 or 2 small marks that prevent the LP from being truly NM.

I list the date of release when this is obvious on label or jacket. I also include dead wax info (RVG, matrix numbers if relevant, etc), and include pics of inserts.

Some higher end LP’s are Play-graded on a SL-1000 table w/ EPA-100 arm and Denon 103R cart.

If an LP looks unplayed and dead Near Mint, I don’t play grade it. However if an LP is between NM and VG++, or a really rare VG+ I often will clean it on a VPI 16.5 and I then play-grade it to be sure of condition. Play graded LP’s will be noted in description.

I basically use the standard grading as defined by GOLDMINE. But have added EX+/- because I feel there is a big difference between NM and VG+. It appears as follows on their website.

Mint (M) Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed (SS).

Near Mint (NM ) A nearly perfect record. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this implying (perhaps correctly)that no record is ever truly perfect.

The record should show no obvious signs of wear. Basically, an LP in near mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.

Excellent Plus (EX+/-) Some light paper scuffs and perhaps 1 or 2 minimal small light scratches. In general, if not for a couple minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus-Plus (EX) record highly acceptable.

Very Good Plus (VG+) A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK".

Very Good (VG) Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.

I only sell records that are graded VG if they are collectable and rare.
