"BACK TO THE EGG"
PROMOTIONAL PICTURE DISC

Before I begin the description of this extremely rare record I want to assure bidders that this is a completely genuine UK copy of "Back to the Egg" by Wings in picture disc format. There are many fake copies in circulation and, unless you are an expert, they can be difficult to spot.

There are certain key features which help to confirm that this is genuine and I list some of these:

It comes in a die-cut cover

The illustration on the cover exactly lines up with the design on the actual disc. (some forgeries have a cover with an picture slightly larger than the record design).

The spine of the cover has the title printed on it and, most importantly, the record number (PCTC 257) is in an unique typescript and having strange symbols before and after the number. Most fakes I have seen have plain type and no symbols.

On the run out grooves there are the names 'NICK W' and 'NICK ' scratched on the A and B side respectively.

The matrix numbers on the run-out grooves are in block capitals and stamped rather than scratched on to the master. These are correct being YEX 987 - 2 and YEX 988 - 4 on the A and B side respectively.

The polythene inner cover has a small blue stripe on one corner, these covers were exclusive to EMI at the time.

The whole 'feel' is substantial and solid. Many copies have a thin card cover and a lightweight record (this is 170 grammes)

Perhaps, more importantly to a prospective buyer, is the fact that for many years, I was a well known record dealer and am still consulted on this subject. It would not be in my interest, as a fairly public figure, to sell anything that I cannot guarantee as being absolutely genuine. If you wish to know a little more about me please email me via eBay.

NOW, THE RECORD!

Rumour has it that there were only 100 of these pressed as promotional items for the band and friends. This is not actually true. 200 were pressed of which 100 were given out 'in house' and to friends and family of MPL. The other 100 were reserved for the press launch in June 1979. These were then taken by a member of MPL staff by taxi to the press reception. However, these were inadvertently left in the taxi and there were some red faces at the launch. The box of 100 picture discs were never recovered. By the way, I am not the taxi driver!

This has always been one of the most elusive McCartney / Beatles items and most copies that have surfaced have been snapped up by collectors and investors and, nowadays, they hardly ever come on to the market

The disc itself is absolutely mint, that is why I have listed it as 'new'. There are no spindle marks at all and I cannot believe this would have ever been played. It weighs 170 grammes

The cover. First, the most easily damaged part, the die cut circle, is absolutely perfect. Not a crease or a single mark. The side opening for the record is not torn or creased in any way and is a crisp as the day it was made. You can see this in the picture. On the back on the top left corner there is a light crease running north / west. I have photographed this in a strong light to show this clearly. There are two other creases on the lower back edge running upwards for about 15mm but these are too faint to show on a picture. The corners are perfect.

Overall, this is in astounding condition for a record that is over 30 years old and is a real prize for the serious collector, it is certainly one of the rarest McCartney records and would be an absolute gem in a collection.

The record will be packed in two separate card envelopes, one for the disc in its polythene cover and the other for the cover (both in a further polythene cover). These two envelopes will then be sandwiched between two pieces of hardboard then enclosed in waterproof polythene and then, further, wrapped in bubble wrap then brown paper. It will be posted via the royal mail 'signed for' service. For this reason I will be charging a total of £15.00 for this. eBay only allows me to show a postage of £4.00, this is not possible with such a valuable item as this so, ignore the £4.00 and be prepared to pay £15.00! If you win we can discuss how to pay this amount and whether you wish to pay extra for insurance. If you prefer, You can collect the record from me which would, of course, be preferable as it avoids any risk. Also, I can arrange to deliver it in the M25 area for the cost of my petrol. Again, we can discuss this after you have won.

I have no problem with anyone having a low feedback, after all, we all had zero once, however, if you do have a feedback below 10 or a rating less than 97% please contact me before bidding.

I have indicated above the postage details for the UK. If you wish, I can quote for despatch overseas but, essentially, this would be precisely at cost and I would give you an exact costing after you have won and I know to where I am sending and the amount to insure it for.

If you have any questions, please email me via eBay.
