This record has been the most cherished psych LP in my collection from the USA for some time but due to recent circumstances it shall be passed along to another collector from the USA in this auction! Up for sale is a beautiful copy of JOSEFUS the Original FIRST PRESSING of the Legendary American Heavy Psych Monster entitled DEAD MAN released on the HOOKAH RECORDS label out of Houston, TX. Absolutely love the interpolation of the riff from I Want You ( She's So Heavy ) by The Beatles in their track Proposition. An incredibly crushing heavy garage rock interpretation of the popular sounds of the 60s straight from the era.

Check pictures to see condition, nice jacket and Beautiful clean labels. This is an original first pressing. Hall of fame USA FUZZ-PSYCH GIANT...SUPER RARE, TOP SOUGHT 1970 OG press. LOW opening and NO RESERVE auction ends this Friday night 12:01am Eastern Standard time.

The "DEAD MAN" LP by Josefus remains one of the most sought hard garage fuzz records of the sixties...Having played together in the Houston, Texas-based United Gas, in the wake of the band's collapse, singer Pete Bailey and guitarist Dave Mitchell decided to continue their musical collaboration. Adding drummer Doug Tull and bassist Ray Turner the the line up, the band initially attracted the attention of producer Jim Musil. Musil trucked the band to Arizona where he financed a series of demos under the name Come. Unable to interest a major label in the results (Frank Zappa's Straight label was reportedly briefly interested), the tapes were shelved; the band returning to Houston. As Josefus, the quartet began playing Houston's local club scene. Unable to attract the attention of a label, the decided to record and release an album on their own Hookah label (the label symbol was a Turkish water pipe). Reportedly recorded in a single eight hour period, with a second day to mix, 1970's self-produced "Dead Man" proved surprisingly accomplished. With the exception of a manic cover of The Stones "Gimmie Shelter", the collection featured all original, group-penned material. Propelled by Bailey's outrageous manic vocals and Mitchell's raw fuzzed-up guitar, the set found the quartet blasting their way through a mix of bluesy ("I Need a Woman") and hard rock ("Crazy Man"). Highlights included their wild cover of The Stones' "Gimmie Shelter" and the 17 minute psychedelic meltdown title track ("Dead Man"). Pete Bailey's high tortured vocals owed much to the Robert Plant school, and the songs are built around crunching riffs. Highlights include the forever greatness of "CRAZY MAN" "Proposition" "Situation" ...though, the album on the whole has no weak tracks and is considered a monster of the genre ...as a result it is widely sought after by collectors...
