Guided by Voices
Propeller
(Rockathon, 1992)

This is an original Propeller by Guided by Voices, numbered #28 of 500. The front collage was created by Robert Pollard; the back cover was hand-highlighted by Bob as well. This copy is extra-special, as it was originally owned by Tobin Sprout. When the covers were completed, each member was allowed to chose a few for their personal collections—this copy was chosen and kept by Tobin. Included in this auction is Tobin's mailing label and handwritten "thanks" when he eventually relented and sold this one.

The original shrink wrap is still on the cover (hence some of the glare you see in my photos), but note it has been opened, and the shrink is a bit torn away on the back. Nonetheless, the cover is in EX condition. Bob's collage is a stone-cold classic. (It's very much worth noting Bob used a color Xerox cut-out of one of Tobin's pieces of art for the cover—the head on the bottom.) And he also hand-highlighted the back cover in beautiful fashion, using many colors.

The record has barely been played; but it does have a few nonplaying/nonsounding sleeve marks. Note early GbV albums were not pressed on audiophile-quality vinyl. While most would rate the album EX-, I'm going to be fair and rate its condition an extremely strong VG+, as there are some moments of light crackle. But overall the album retains all of its original sheen and played great. And yes, the run-out has the "No Age/Old Age" inscription. This is 100 percent the original vinyl.

Collage front cover by Robert Pollard. Hand-highlighted back cover by Robert Pollard. Owned by Tobin Sprout. #28. Need I say more?

Please note my feedback and buy with confidence!

GRADING

I grade vinyl very conservatively. I don't just sell records, I buy them for myself as well. The only records I will grade Mint are sealed records, and even then will note cover condition. I do not rate records Near Mint. The next-highest rating for me is Excellent.

Mint = sealed
EX = like new condition, little to no wear visible
EX- = may have a sleeve mark or two that does not make noise, or slight sign of handling, but still plays excellent
VG+ = no major flaws, looks good and plays great, occasional minor pop or click, used but not abused
VG = may have some marks that play but no skipping; may have some pops and clicks. Still a solid record to listen to.
