This is a very nice copy of the sought after, and very scarce Jazz LP "ART PEPPER QUARTET" on TAMPA RECORDS #RS1001, featuring ART PEPPER, Alto Sax, RUSS FREEMAN, Piano, BEN TUCKER, Bass, and GARY FROMMER, Drums. Recorded at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, November 23, 1956. Many ART PEPPER fans feel this is his greatest recording.

This LP was released in the mid 50s, and this is the FIRST PRESSING. It features the BLACK AND SILVER Double Sided DEEP GROOVE label. The labels are clean, with very slight spindle marks(see pics). The LP itself is the thick, heavy vinyl associated with these mid 1950's pressings. This LP has the FLAT EDGE indicating its a very early pressing. This LP is conservatively rated in VG/VG- condition. The record plays beautifully, with a bit of background noise...no skips, no sticks....just an occasional "tick"...no deep vertical scratches that would cause a repetitive "click". The record surfaces still retain much of the original gloss. Although there are some light and noticeable marks on the record, there are no deep or significant scratches...only a couple light surface scratches - this is why I am being super conservative and rating the LP VG/VG-.

The visual grade might be VG-, but I am play grading this LP at VG...it still sounds gorgeous - again, with the occasional pop or tick - but nothing overly distracting - its still a very LISTENABLE copy of this highly sought after LP. I have played this LP, and listened closely - and it sounds lovely...it is a very well engineered and well recorded session...while listening, I was thinking "this is about as close to listening to Art Pepper playing live in your living room as you can get". Please remember, this is a 60+ year old LP, and as I've stated clearly, its not a mint copy - but I can assure you this is a very nice, presentable and listenable copy of this rare LP. The cover is in VG condition, with light shelf wear, and invisible tape on the spine and top seam. There is a slight paper loss on the upper right corner of the jacket (see picture) very minor...about 1/8 of an inch x 1 1/2 inch wide. The classic cover image, signed "Miller" and the distinctive graphics, are sharp and clear. I have set what I believe to be a reasonable reserve for this LP in this condition.

By the way, I am a Jazz pianist, composer, and recording artist, and have been collecting rare Jazz LPs for many years. I assure you, all the LPs I will be offering here have been meticulously taken care of, and only played rarely, on a Sota Sapphire Turntable, with a Grado Reference Cartridge. They have been kept inside a temperature controlled room in my home, in plastic dust jackets - in other words, you can bid in confidence, knowing these LPs come from someone who has loved them and babied them. I am downsizing my collection, and somewhat reluctantly, I am finally selling some of my treasured LPs - and I hope they go to someone who will love them as I have.

All LPs will be carefully packed in proper LP boxes, well protected, and sent USPS Media Rate, unless the lucky winner wants the record sooner. We can send priority mail if desired, or UPS ground. Shipping costs are always based on your location. I do not add "handling" fees, costs will be exactly as I am charged by the shipper of choice. Note to overseas buyers: the LP will be sent to E-Bay's Global Shipping Center, and then from there, shipped to you. Good Luck!
