Vinyl: 1914 CARL FLESCH VIOLIN Vieuxte WIENIAWSKI Edison DD 78

A series of great EDISON DIAMOND DISC recordings:

CARL FLESCH, the early and great German Violin Virtuoso and Pedagogue, made only a small number of recordings. These Edisons give a great insight in this German Violin teacher.

EXCELLENT dusty, faint edge chipping not affecting play

Carl Flesch (October 9, 1873 - November 14, 1944) was a violinist and teacher.

Born in Moson in Hungary, Flesch studied at the conservatoires in Vienna and Paris. He settled in Berlin, and as well as being known for his solo performances in a very wide range of repertoire (from Baroque music to contemporary), gained fame as a chamber music performer and as a violin pedagogue. He published a number of instructional books, including Die Kunst des Violin-Spiels (1923). Among his pupils were Ida Haendel, Henryk Szeryng, Josef Hassid, Yfrah Neaman, and Eric Rosenblith. He was consulted by Louis Krasner over technical difficulties in the Violin Concerto by Alban Berg which Krasner was to premiere. The Carl Flesch scale system is a staple of violin pedagogy.

Flesch owned the Brancaccio Stradivarius, but had to sell it in 1928 after losing all his money on the New York Stock Exchange.

Flesch died in Lucerne.

Pls note that I try to be careful and consistent in my grading. All records are graded with the same criteria, regardless of genre.

My grading should give you a good idea how the record you receive will look like.

Surface VISUAL GRADING:

EXCELLENT - clean and shiny, as new. E minus is the same, with some scuffing.

Very Good Plus - Clean, with a little more scuffing. Some grooves spots may have some light greying. Little if any distortion.

Very Good - a clean copy, some scuffing, some greying on some grooves or a few small groove bands. Enjoyable record, maybe light distortion on some top notes.

=> Everything up to here is a great and enjoyable record

Very Good Minus - May have areas of visible wear, may have scuffing or dulled surface. Still a great record, but ticks, pops and some distortion.

Good Plus - a worn and scuffed copy. May have other defects separately stated. Plays well, but with noise, may require filtering.

All other defects (if any: Chips, cracks, scratches, lamination cracks, label damage, needle digs) will be stated SEPARATELY. "BUT" means that they are significant. "Faint" usually does not sound.
